A question that comes up a lot is:
“Do I need supplements?”
The answer is: it depends.
Supplements can be useful, but they should be exactly that – a supplement to a healthy lifestyle, not a replacement for good nutrition, movement, sleep and stress management.
Before spending money on supplements, ask yourself:
• Am I eating enough protein?
• Am I eating a variety of fruit and vegetables?
• Am I drinking enough water?
• Am I getting quality sleep?
• Am I moving regularly?
• Am I managing my stress levels?
• Am I getting outside and enjoying some sunshine every day?
These foundations will usually have a far bigger impact on your health than any supplement.
Supplementation is highly individual. What works for one person may not be appropriate for another.
If you’re experiencing ongoing fatigue, poor sleep, digestive issues, low mood, stubborn weight gain or other symptoms, it’s always worth speaking to a qualified healthcare professional who can assess your individual needs.
I always encourage my clients to focus on building strong daily habits first:
✓ Strength training
✓ Walking
✓ Mobility work
✓ Protein at every meal
✓ Good sleep habits
✓ Stress reduction
✓ Getting outside in natural daylight – sunshine
✓Minimise snacking & prioritise mindful eating.
These simple practices create the biggest return on investment when it comes to health, wellbeing and longevity.
I’ve written about these basics many times in the newsletter, and whilst they may seem simple, they really do work. Creating these habits as your daily non-negotiables is one of the most powerful things you can do for your long-term health.
So before you add another supplement to your shopping basket, ask yourself:
“Have I mastered the basics?”
Often, that’s where the real magic happens.
